2012 book report #2
“Blod Eld Död” by Ika Johannesson and Jon Jefferson Klingberg. A book about the rise, rise, fall, rise and rise, etc, of the Swedish (and Norwegian) metal scene. Very well-written, funny, moving and the perfect entry point to a lot of Swedish (and Norwegian) metal bands. Current faves are Dissection (… but only the music), Watain and Bathory. Highly recommended.
2012 book report #1
“Samlade Svenska Kulter” by Anders Fager. Swedish horror novel collection somewhat intertwined; individually some were great, others meh – but overall establishing a rather delightful, Kungsholmen-based Lovecraftian world that I couldn’t get enough of. Recommended.

Neeeeew stufffff!
O HAI. Since last time, I’ve founded a new digital communications agency – ish – and as a way of celebrating our entry to the world: a small service about the world. The company is called Dear Future and the service Dear World and both are available at dearfuture.se.
If you love, love, loooooove Swedish, ja, då kan du läsa lite mer om det i Dagens Media eller Resumé.

My Best Friend's Wedding
Was yesterday. I was one of two toastmasters. The speech I held was the hardest thing I’ve ever written; of giving it, I remember nothing. It was a truly magical day, evening and night, one in a billion – unique, even. Today I’m filled to the brim with love and pride and at a total loss for words. And: hungover, as the first thing I drank once the amazing dinner (17 speeches!) was over...

Garry Shandling, forever genius
Toward the end of February, in the first-class cabin of a United flight from Hawaii to Los Angeles, the only man on the planet who has hosted late-night talk shows, appeared on late-night talk shows, and created an iconic TV series that parodied a late-night talk show encountered the man who had just been famously ousted from a late-night talk show.
Garry Shandling was in 1A. Conan O’Brien...

Beijing8 Beta: Introducing: the IRL status update →
The Beijing8 Beta restaurant is gearing up!
beijing8:
Starting now, every Monday we’ll update our window with information on what to expect the coming week. Sort of like a status update. Except in reality. Written with a marker. On a window.
2008 commercial for The Royal Opera
For some reason or other, I was reminded of an old commercial we made for The Royal Opera in Stockholm in December, 2008. A cover of the super classic WWW clip “Nintendo 64 Kid”, to promote the ballet The Nutcracker. Made on zero budget but with lots of will, it’s still pretty funny – though almost all things pitched down super (s)low are funny (as made evident in the MEGA GENIUS...

Our course at Beckmans Akademi!
… can now be applied to. Here.

Analogue Beijing
Here’s some snapshots from our weeks in Beijing.
grandinternational:
Hello People! Just spent two weeks in Beijing, filming a bunch of interviews with creative people of the Chinese capital.
/…/ Some sneak peaks following as below…
Cover of Stig Åsberg's "Karlavagnen"
For this month’s 5070 – on the theme “Space” – I made a cover of one of my all-time faves: Stig Åsberg’s magnificent image “Karlavagnen”.
I'm coming to Beckmans Akademi! This autumn!
This autumn, me and Jakob will hold a ten week course at Beckmans Akademi. Proudly joining the ranks of other very esteemed teachers such as Stefania Malmsten (one of my all time favorites and constant source of inspiration), Eric Ericson Lotta Agaton, Nille Svensson, Pär Engsheden, Jonas Dahlberg and others. Wow. Did I mention we’re proud?
You can apply… soon. End of May, I think. Until...

But still, I think what Chinese always has is: we can endure. We don’t give up...
– From one of the interviews we’ve made here in Beijing — this quote regarding the Chinese censorship and how the people of the Chinese internet cope with it. Some small rays of sunshine through an otherwise very thick layer of smog.

Beijing, like pulled pork, takes time and, like...
And that’s the way it is. Lots of love from a city that is – weirdly, as it is a true, mega-super-sized, never-ending sprawl of a city – quietly growing into a very special place in my heart.

It is wonderful. YOU should go there. (WE went there with our friend Stephanie from Shanghai yesterday, who’s here working. Had fried burgers. Etc.)
